About Counterbalance Wellbeing

A person centered approach

“Connectedness has the power to counterbalance adversity”.

As Dr Bruce Perry highlights above, relational health plays a critical role in mitigating the impact of trauma. Clinically, my practice over the past decade has been shaped by this principle, recognising that safe, attuned, and meaningful connections, both within the therapeutic relationship and in broader relational contexts, can serve as protective and reparative buffers against adversity. At Counterbalance Wellbeing, fostering these connections is central to supporting resilience, emotional regulation, and the healing process.

As a therapist and mental health clinician, I have extensive experience working with children, young people, families, parents, caregivers and supportive care teams in the areas of complex developmental trauma, neglect, disrupted attachment, family systems, and complex behaviours. My skills and interests lie in the treatment of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, posttraumatic stress disorder, relationship difficulties, behaviour change, and grief and loss.

My approach is integrative, collaborative, and informed by a deep understanding of interpersonal neurobiology, neurological thresholds, and the stress-response system. I have undertaken extensive training in developmental psychiatry, behavioural and relational interventions, and developmental neuroscience. In practice, I draw on trauma-processing interventions such as EMDR, Clay Field, and art therapy.

With a love of learning, I also have a passion for sharing knowledge and strengthening practice.

  • I have delivered art therapy education and experiential workshops, reflective practice to professional teams, and supported agencies and school teams in their understanding of complex young people.
  • During the pandemic, I extended my professional practice into the teaching field, teaching Master of Art Therapy students about trauma and the Expressive Therapies Continuum (an art psychotherapeutic model of creative functioning).
  • I have co-facilitated therapeutic foster care training to support caregivers to provide wraparound therapeutic care to children.
